Hajimemashite

GOD. I am TRYING to watch "Princess Hours" on my computer here at school but the internet connection is so slow I can only stream it at 2PM when everybody else is in class or at 2AM.

Speaking of classes, they've finally started and that means I'm tired all the time and I feel like I've been hit by a bus full of nerds.

Monday, yesterday, I had my first intermediate-level Japanese class and I think I'm going to either murder myself or this...freaky crazy girl. She is in both sections of my nihongo class and is "That Girl." It's not just the normal level oddness you get with Japan fanatics but beyond that into some 4th dimension.

I recently heard some stories about her at my "Waterboys" party Saturday. Maybe you're thinking, "How can a girl who has a 'Waterboys Party' complain about other people's nerdiness?" Well there are two reasons:

#1) Waterboys is awesome and completely not nerdy at all. In fact, those who came to my party are unquestionably the coolest people in the nihongo class

#2) I hate anime.

Japanese is going to be a butt this semester. I've accepted the fact. There are almost 40 students in second-year nihongo, a previously unheard of number. It's really popular this year. Because of budget cuts they've cut down the number of class sections from three to two, so the class sizes are huge.

I'm also taking "Behavior Genetics," which is my first 300-level class.

Today I had my first "Biodiversity, Ecology and Conservation" class. I looked up the prof on ratemyprofessors.com and it says that he's really boring. Hopefully I'll survive. For the second half of the semester the course is being taught by a guy just out of school. This means that after spring break I don't have to look at an old-guy face for an hour and a half every Tu/Th.

Finally, I am taking "Japanese Language and Culture," which will be a totally AWESOME class because it includes about 1/2 my nihongo class: all the cool people with just a sprinkling of nerds. Plus the prof was like "nihongo's tough so I wont make you do a lot." AND THERE IS NO FINAL.

Going to that class was probably the highlight of my week because yesterday sucked balls. I was definitely harassed while working at the library by people who ask dumb questions that I don't know how to answer...Though nothing can top the girl who asked me for an ace bandage that time... (at the science library ?!?!).

Ahhhh all I wanna do is sit back and watch some good dramas and eat candy. I guess I should set some motivational goals. They are as follows:

DURING THIS SEMESTER I WILL:

#1)Get a SIX PACK!!!
#2) Get a B+ OR ABOVE in all my classes
#3) Find something FUN TO DO OVER THE SUMMER if I don't get into the study abroad program I applied to (which I will not...)

This may include: Going on a trip to California, Going to Six Flags in NJ, sawing off my own arm

Any of the above listed are > in fun than my current job, lifeguarding for old people, and are therefore preferred. And speaking of lifeguarding I have my first shift at the pool tomorrow where I guard for an old people aqua-aerobics class. WHAT IS WITH ALL THE OLD PEOPLE???

Track Sucks

So basically the last entry was a really boring list of things that I did when in Charleston. THIS ONE WILL BE MORE BORING. I PROMISE. Because now I'm just at school and I'm not doing super crazying things like using POWER TOOLS or jumping out of planes whatnot.

Last week Christa and Big-T came by and hung out for a few days. I thought it'd be weird having a guy visit me at Smith College because the 'desperate smith whore' stare makes some uncomfortable but it ended up being totally fine. We did a lot of boring things like going to the mall, eating, and watching scary movies and suspense thrillers such as 'scooby-doo on zombie island' and 'la moustache,' respectively.

They both left Thursday right after Kathleen came and stayed for a few nights with Liza. Kathleen used to go to Smith but doesn't any more and she ran cross country with me. Now she parties and goes to a school that is too dumb for her and I miss her tons <3

Track started and I had my first hard workout. Blah. I'm sick of it. Also, my friends showed me this video. It's supposed to become a cartoon in a few months! I can't wait >:D

2010 Beginnings :D

What the heck do you call this decade, "The Tens" ?? So confusing. And this year my friend is "The Class of Ten," which sounds really stupid. Anyways, New Years was fun and I spent it with Christa at her house. We watched the ball drop on TV and I ate a lot of candy and we played mad libs.

The next day I went home early, packed and made my way to Connecticut where my Aunt, Uncle and Cousins live. And then on Saturday we made the 13 hour trip to Charleston, to do a Habitat for Humanity project.

All of us woke up late on Sunday and spent the day in Charleston. The city is so cool and oldish-looking. My cousin works for a carriage tour company so he was able to get us a free tour around the city. So many houses are really neat and I wish I could own something like that. After the tour we went to the old slave market where they now have vendors set up. Not many people were there since it was so cold, but my cousin Kelly told me that it's really packed in the spring and summer. Later that night we went to dinner at Kelly's Americore friend's house.

The next day we started construction at the build site. It turned out that we were building a wheelchair ramp at the house Kelly lived at when she did Americore in Charleston two years ago. Initially, everybody thought, "Bahh, a wheelchair ramp, so easy. It'll take no time at all!" WRONG. We didn't even finish it by the end of four days of work, which is kinda sad. Throughout the day we dug holes for the posts and mixed/ poured concrete. It was absolutely freezing out and I shivered like crazy. That night we went out for ice-cream at a type of "Coldstone Creamery" knockoff place. It was OK but the cookie dough they put in my ice-cream tasted funk.

Tuesday at the build site I got to work inside which was so nice 'cause it's heated. I painted a bunch of doors. That night we went and saw "Avatar" in theaters. We wanted to go to the Imax theater but it was all sold out (On a Tuesday night?!?!). We ended up going to this other place and we had to wait around for an hour and a half for the movie to start. It was OK though and we saw it in 3D. The movie was really awesome. I wouldn't mind seeing it again soon >:D

Wednesday at the job site I began to lay decking on the ramp with the help of Courtney, a girl my age from the church group we came with. Also, I used a table saw for the first time in my life and SAWED MY THUMB OFF...didn't get harmed at all. Later that night I had a southern experience 'cause we went to an Oyster bake, or whatever. Oysters are so gross and funky looking but I still ate a lot. Some of them had what looked like poo, still inside of them so I didn't eat them or made a mistake and ate them and they tasted gritty..

Thursday was our last day at the job site and I finished up the decking with Courtney and we got everything done except for the railings. For dinner we went to my cousin's girlfriend, Jen's, friend's house. Complicated. Her house was on John's Island and was huuuge with three floors and a great view of some water. We had steak and GRITS--so Southern--and sweet potato fries.

Friday the church group we were with left to go back to Pennsylvania and my group was gonna go to the job site to help the regular volunteers finish the ramp. (Unfortunately) it was raining. Ho hum we had to sleep in late..so sad.. Instead we played cards all morning. In the afternoon we went back into Charleston to go to the market again, eat dinner and go on a ghost tour which was lame and I saw no ghosts which is lamer. That night I also withdrew $200 from the ATM for secretive thingsss...

...Cause my cousin's girlfriend's birthday was coming up and my cousin planned a surprise for her. We got up early Saturday morning and drove 2 hours to the airport where we WENT SKYDIVING. Paying someone to jump out of a plane is the most useless thing I've ever done with my money but so freaking insanely cool. Our free fall was 120 mph and lasted only 40 seconds or so. It was freezing and I could see the ocean from where we were. Matt was able to surprise Jen successfully and I think everybody had a really great time. That night we went to dinner at a nice place and I had the best salmon I've ever had in my life :D

We went home on Sunday. It took us a record 12.5 hours. I stayed the night at my Aunt and Uncle's house and the next day my cousin Kelly brought me back to Smith where I am now :) J-TERM IS SO AWESOME. yea.

First Entry !!

I LOVE BLOGGING. Currently, I am back at school laying on the couch in my common room watching a horrible show on Nickelodeon. I am thinking about how I have nothing to do for the next few hours and about how I woke up at 6 AM and just wanna sleep. When I switched to Disney Channel the Jonas Brothers were on TV. When I look at them I think the word "eyebrow" and of whiny singing.

It's j-term and I'm back at school and I should be writing/ editing my application for study abroad but I am not. I am also not doing the five tons of laundry I have left from my journey last week which I will describe at a later date when I'm feeling less lazy + more creative.

bye :)
