ACCEPTANCE :D

Recently I haven't really been in the blogging mood 'cause I've been so busy, so this is gonna be short.

Not much happened in the past week that jumps into my mind except a lot of SNOW. In general, it's a bit warmer here at school than it is a home so we get less snow, but we still got a ton. Since Smith is a not a commuter campus none of our classes were canceled, though.

Friday I went with three other girls from my team to race a DMR in Boston. I ran in the 1600m leg of the relay and worked my butt off...and had a horrible time. We came in last lawlz. Fortunately, our DMR time was good enough to qualify us for ECACs which are being hosted here at Smith this Friday and Saturday. I may have to miss classes on Friday, only to be 1/2 a mile away at the indoor track. It's kind of silly.

O GAWD. How could I forget this?!! I got into my study abroad program and now I'm officially studying abroad in Japan next year through the Associated Kyoto Program (AKP). It's gonna be a good time. To celebrate, I watched the Karate Kid >:)

Rally Day!

Rally Day is a Smith tradition going back thousands of years since the first president was elected. It was set up to celebrate Mr. Washington and Lincoln and the groovy things they've done, personally, for our college. In fact, it's rumored that Carol Christ, our president, used to date George himself. Truth. So now, every third Wednesday in Feburary, the ladies of Smith College get a day off.

So, of course I got to sleep in... HAHAHA, as if:

...So, of course I had to drag myself, corpse-like, out of bed at the ungodly hour of 8:52 AM. I got to practice just as the clock struck nine and prepared for a grueling tempo run along a highway, dodging cars as they flew at me at the speed of light. Barely missing one as it spun out of control on the icy highway...

...But in reality it was a lot more boring that that, and we finished in time to make the beginning of 11 o'clock brunch. AKA THE BEST BRUNCH I EVER HAD. Smith college goes into a frenzy whenever they serve lockes for breakfast. And I, myself, ate about 5 pounds of smoked salmon-y goodness~

Next, I went to lifeguard at the pool for a whole 45 minutes (wtf) and then caught the bus with Uli and Raquel to Hampshire mall to see "Valentine's Day." I thought it was a cute movie even though Raquel thought it sucked and made "pfffffft" sounds through the whole movie. haha. We also ended up seeing "The Lightning Thief," or whatever, and I PERSONALLY ENJOYED IT.

When I finally got home I realized that I didn't touch the pile of homework I swore I'd get through that day, and saint-like, I prodigiously completed it all...

HAHAHA. Actually, I went to bed.

Other Happenings:

(1) Forgot to mention this but Tuesday night I was basically the star of Vogue. I participated in the Rally Day fashion show which showcased Smith Fashion through the ages. I was all the rage in 60s style clothing and I LOOKED...ridiculous.

(2) Today I got to give a awesome presentation in class on assigned readings!!! Problem was that I didn't do the assigned readings... That was not cool. BUT I'M USUALLY A FAB STUDENT. This is the truth!

(3) Tomorrow I leave for Maine for Div IIIs at USM. It's an overnight meet and I wont get back until Saturday night.

(4) My AKP (Associated Kyoto Program) Interview is Sunday. That's the study abroad program I'm applying to for next year. I'm a teensy bit nervous but also excited because it's the last step in the application process >:D

(5) My Mommy's coming Sunday! AND SHE'S TAKING ME OUT FOR FREE FOOD (on her!) Which probably means that she says she's coming but then will call me on Sunday and say she just wants to head straight back home and not stop in Northampton :P

MANY EVENTS THIS WEEKEND.

I LUUUURRRVE SKIING

This past weekend was really interesting because a lot of stuff happened. Stuff doesn't usually happen if it doesn't involve a textbook or take place in the library or on a track. Actually, Friday involved men and that's an even rarer occurrence because all the men you usually see here are over fifty and/or born women.

Masspirg was putting on its annual date auction and since I only brought 4 dollars with me I didn't bid on anybody but I WANTED TO. My grandma called me today and left a voicemail asking me "Kristin, why didn't you buy a man with the Valentine's money I sent you?" ...I don't know how to answer her :(

A girl on my track team won a man and they went out on a date and some people in my house also got some men. I'm OK with being single because while at Smith College, all I need is food and Disney Channel.

Anyways, after the auction I went to a party at another house and danced a ton and then went to sleep. The next day I went skiing for the second time all season at Berkshire East with some people from my house including a girl on the ski team. The mountain is really tiny and nothing like Gore Mountain in NY, which I'm more used to. By this I mean that I didn't fear for my life so much. Two reasons:

#1) Unlike Gore, ice did not coat every inch of ski-able terrain
#2) Unlike Gore, there weren't 323409832048 14 and 15-year-old boys everywhere, going full-speed down the mountain, like idiots

Hungry from skiing, we stopped to get Mickey D's on the way back and I almost fainted when I heard they ran out of ice-cream. McFlurrys are the reason for my existence and so the rest of the night passed in a blur of depression...

...but not really. I hung around with my friends and had a "study" party :)

Smith Invitational and other stuff

So I'm finally over the trauma brought on by watching "Paranormal Activity." Honestly I really didn't want to watch the movie in the first place but I must be bad with peer pressure because I ended up watching it and as a result I couldn't sleep very well. But now that its been a whole week, I'm pretty much convinced that nothing's gonna drag me out of bed and down the hall in the middle of the night..probably.. :(

Further happenings:

This past week has been pretty lax. Half my classes (or more) I've decided are a joke. This is the first semester where I don't HAVE to do homework every minute of the day and it's a nice break, I guess. I mean, I'm still doing homework during ever free moment but it's a relief when you know you don't HAVE to do it right then. In other words, Smith College sucks.

I applied to work reunion, which goes for two or so weeks after exams end. I hear you can haul in some serious cash if you work it so I'm hoping to save up some for next year. In order to be accepted for the job, you have to apply and write a short essay. My essay is the best because it's full of the most crap and sucking up I could shove onto one page. AKA my specialty :)

Yesterday was the Smith College Tartan Invitational here at school. I ran in the mile and 1000m and had some seriously horrible times. Pulling off a miracle, I was able to qualify for Div IIIs in the mile and so I'll be racing it again in two weeks. My parents came to watch and took me out for dinner and desert yesterday and breakfast this morning. I love when my parents come visit me because they will pay for eveeerrrryytttthiiinggg. I even got my laundry done for free!

Now I have to say something interesting, but the problem is that nothing interesting ever happens to me, really.

http://www.mysoju.com/hotaru-no-hikari/ <--like that. dahahaha I love this drama (in a non-nerdy way)

NI HAO

When classes start...nothing interesting happens. I went to my first indoor track meet of the season on Saturday and WON THE 1000m RACE with a time I am too embarrassed to disclose... So basically it wasn't a very competitive meet. This weekend we have one here at Smith and it's gonna be pretty big and competitive-like.

O my gawd this is so depressing. All my classes are of the majorly, horrifyingly, catch-up-on-sleep boring type. The one (not-so-much-)redeeming class is Japanese, where I have to really concentrate and it's always interesting (in a scary wtf is going on way)...And so, it is also the class that most depresses me because after a year and a half of nihongo I am still horrible. Just plain まだまだ. Right now I'm following a j-drama, Hotaru no Hikari, in a totally non-nerdy way and I'm realizing that I understand next-to-nothing without subtitles.

Which brings me to...

Classic moment of the week: Last night I went to Japanese class oral check and when I enter the room, the tutor says to me "Nihon? (Japan?)" and I say "HAI! (YES!)" and then she starts speaking to me in this RIDICULOUS JAPANESE THAT I UNDERSTOOD NOTHING OF... And then I realized she was speaking Chinese and had said, "Ni hao" or whatever hello in Chinese is... Basically, ridiculous.

And the only slightly-funny thing that happened to me all week D:
